KUALA LUMPUR, 12 November – 78 students of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) was urged to be ambassadors in promoting Islamic finance and its products during the Islamic Finance Forum (IFF) 2014 that was held here in UNIRAZAK.
“With Islamic finance products being readily abundant in the market, there is no reason for Muslims to subscribe to conventional finance,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aznan Hasan, Deputy Chairman, Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission Malaysia during the forum titled “Past, Present and Future of Islamic Finance in Malaysia”.
“Non-Muslims are also subscribing to it due to it is being more financially attractive and it is value base-driven,” added Dr. Aznan who is also a lecturer at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak.
The journey of the Malaysian finance sector in becoming wholly Islamic is an on-going process and requires support from everyone.
“We have a long way to go and a lot do to, but I strongly believe that one day Islamic finance will be the mainstream finance system in Malaysia,” added Ustaz Ibrahim Mohd Hasan, Executive Shariah Advisory of Maybank Islamic who is also the President of Persatuan Belia Islam Nasional (PEMBINA) during the forum.
IFF 2014 also featured a public lecture on takaful centered around the misconceptions and the importance of having takaful protection at a young age, that was delivered by Haji Ismail Basar, Vice President and the Head of IKHLAS Academy of Takaful Ikhlas.
IFF 2014 was organized by Bank Rakyat School of Business & Entrepreneurship Student Society (BRSBE Student Society) in collaboration with PEMBINA Kuala Lumpur and is supported by Takaful Ikhlas.
The Program Director of IFF 2014, Rizal Zulkifli Poh, hopes that this program has kept the participants abreast with the latest developments in Islamic finance particularly in Malaysia as there is a huge gap between what is being thought in universities and what is happening in the industry.
“Hopefully the participants are inspired and are eager to acquire more knowledge so that they could better serve the community in understanding Islamic finance,” added Rizal who is also the Head Media of PEMBINA Kuala Lumpur.
IFF 2014 has managed to attract students from various race and religion.
