Government business days

APPARENTLY, parliamentary democracy as it is practiced in Malaysia is not good enough and needs alteration. Bersih, in their latest rally made a demand to strengthen the current mechanism. One of the methods suggested to enable this change was by allocating “non-governmental business” days to the opposition.

There are opportunities for opposition MPs to voice out their opinion in the parliament. Apart from that, the opposition can have their time after the government has tabled all of their Bills. As it is this request seems redundant.

When Marang Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi presented his Private Member’s Bill, chaos ensued. The facility already exists as it is, however not necessarily accepted. Do we need something that is present but not accepted? There were parliamentarians that went all out to opposing the Bill.

This includes both the government and opposition parties. So when something is available nonetheless not of liking it has to be opposed? Does this mean that everything has to be in accordance to the liking of some parties? That does not sound fair to be honest.

The pretext of the entire movement was fairness. Never mind that the protest itself was politically motivated and supported by the opposition inclined parties. Another critical aspect was the presence of gay rights movements. Despite homosexual acts being outlawed, were nevertheless promoted. There are many aspects of Bersih that raise more questions than can possibly be answered.

Especially from the perspective of being fair. Being sponsored by dubious sources, but yet claiming to do good. That in and of itself is an oxymoron. How can a group claim to do good, but yet at the same time obtain funds from earnings via unethical means?

If indeed justice is sought, then justice should be impartial and unbiased.
